Fertility Acupuncture and a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is easy isn’t we all know what we need, fresh fruit and vegetables, no processed foods and enough protein, both animal and vegetable, daily to sustain us with good nutrition. Well it is a bit more complex than that but you get the idea.

So if it is that simple why do so many of us find it difficult and in doing so compromise our health every day because of all the reasons we keep in our head about why we cant. Did you know that diet, both yours and your partners affects fertility and your “bad” eating habits could be stopping your dreams from coming true?

The ideal diet differs with each individual and our practitioners at Fertility Acupuncture South Yarra can advise you about the best diet for you not only to boost your fertility but for optimal health as well.

Getting Pregnant and Healthy Eating

By eating nutritious foods you are making sure that your eggs have the best environment to mature in, your body is healthy and if you eat in a relaxed way rather than in a hurry then your body is more likely to absorb the maximum nutrition from them to be used in your body.

What Foods are best for Fertility?

1. Fresh fruits and vegetables: organic is the best to avoid the harmful sprays that are added to fruits and vegetables when they are growing and also when they are displayed in the shops. Consider the seasonal produce because they will be the best quality and easier for your body to digest.

2. Animal protein: fatty meats and any that have been fed growth promoters are best avoided as they are not great for your health. Lean red meats, organic chicken and fresh fish in portions that will ensure that you are getting the right amount of daily protein for maximum health.

3. Vegetable protein: a great addition to your protein intake and allows you to reduce animal proteins, it is easier for the body to digest as well.

4. Processed foods: are not good for you and many are just empty calories with preservatives and colourings that can be harmful so it is best to avoid them as much as possible.

5. Water: drinking enough water is essential to good health. Make water your drink of choice and get rid of soft drinks and anything that has a high sugar base.

6. Supplements: can be helpful and there are many good ones out there though it is hard to find the right ones for you. Our practitioners at Fertility Acupuncture South Yarra can help you.

Tips for Conception

Caffeine: a high daily intake of caffeine has been associated with infertility and in some cases increasing the risk of miscarriage. It also contributes to dehydration so there are some good reasons to limit your regular intake.

Alcohol: there has been much written about the dangers of excessive consumption of alcohol and how it can affect our lives but did you know that it can reduce fertility in both men and women?

Dairy: consuming full strength dairy products can help your fertility;

Weight: carrying excess weight affects fertility in both men and women. Reduce your weight to increase your fertility.

Whole foods: are very high in nutrients. They contain fibre, enzymes and antioxidants just to name a few, and are natural without any type of chemical additives.

Carbohydrates: high GI carbohydrates actually reduce fertility so avoid flour, cakes and other processed types of foods. On the other hand slow release carbohydrates like legumes, vegetable and whole foods will actually improve it.

Oils: oils lose their good nutrients when they are heated during processing which is why it is so important to only choose oils that are cold pressed because they are healthy for you. Oils like coconut, avocado and olive all assist with reducing and cellular inflammation and can be added to fresh green leaf salads.
